Organization Description: The Palm Beach County Public Defender's Office, 15th Judicial Circuit, is a client-centered, dynamic advocacy office providing representation to people whose lives and liberty are at stake.
The office handles close to 30,000 cases per year and has approximately 200 employees including lawyers, investigators, social workers, and support staff. The IT Department supports all of our employees, so that the office can provide dynamic high quality legal representation to our clients. The main office, housing the trial and appellate divisions, is in downtown West Palm Beach, and there are four branch offices in other areas of the county.
Divisions include: County Court; Felony; Serious Crimes, Mental Health; Major Crimes; Youth Defense Appeals; and Investigative & Social Services’ Units.
Position Overview
The Public Defender’s Office is seeking a dedicated and service-oriented User Support Technician to join our Information Technology team. This position provides first-line technical support to attorneys, investigators, and administrative staff who serve our community. The ideal candidate will be patient, responsive, and capable of troubleshooting a wide range of hardware and software issues in a fast-paced legal environment.

The ideal candidate will be patient, responsive, and capable of troubleshooting a wide range of hardware and software issues in a fast-paced legal environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first-level technical support for desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and peripherals
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network connectivity issues
- Install, configure, and maintain workstations and standard office applications
- Support case management systems and legal software platforms
- Assist with user account management (Active Directory, email, password resets, permissions)
- Document support requests and resolutions in help desk ticketing system
- Support remote users and courtroom technology as needed
- Escalate complex technical issues to senior IT staff
- Maintain inventory of IT equipment and supplies
- 1–5 years of help desk or technical support experience preferred
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office
- Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
- A commitment to preserving the confidentiality of sensitive client information
- Associates Degree in Information Systems or equivalent work experience
- Experience in a legal or government environment
- Familiarity with case management systems
- CompTIA A+, Network+, or similar certification
- Experience with remote support tools
- Passion for the Public Defender mission
- Normal Business Hours in an Office-based setting with occasional travel to satellite offices or court facilities
